When I was growing up, my family’s Thanksgiving tradition involved four things: watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, watching football (then watching more football), eating three helpings of mom’s turkey with homemade gravy and the grand finale, watching KING KONG on local channel 43.
Not only is KING KONG my favorite monster movie of all time, it is the movie I’ve seen more than any other movie. Since 1933 it has influenced most every filmmaker and serves as a reminder of what all filmmakers try to achieve: movie magic — to create a timeless classic which transports the audience to a whole another world and experience a heart-felt story filled with adventure, fear and romance. KING KONG is the epitome of the movie-watching experience.
Considering it has been fifteen plus years since the last time I’ve seen KING KONG, I decided to revive a Thanksgiving tradition this year and watch it again. In preparation I purchased KING KONG on Blu-Ray which included a book with production photos and notes. Very nice high-quality packaging.
After a full afternoon of cooking, eating and cleaning, it was time to sit back and relax and watch KONG, the Eighth Wonder of the World. What a treat to see it again after all these years!
If you have never seen the original KING KONG or haven’t seen it in decades, put it on your DVD list and skip any movie with “battleship” or “transformers” in their titles.
KING KONG is pure movie magic.
