Genre(s): Sci-Fi with Monster Bird “Big as a Battleship”
In celebration of this past weekend’s big action movie release BATTLESHIP, I would like to remind you of another battleship movie called THE GIANT CLAW from 1957. Technically this movie isnt’ about a battleship, but instead THE GIANT CLAW is about a ginormous prehistoric monster bird with… you guessed it: giant claws!
Throughout the movie, this monster bird is described as “big as a battleship.” Be warned THE GIANT CLAW is an awful classic, black and white sci-fi movie, but it’s a good, campy time to watch. Don’t forget it only cost less than a price of a fine dinner to produce, while Hasbro’s BATTLESHIP production budget was over $200 million.
To be fair, I haven’t seen BATTLESHIP yet and I will probably skip it like it was a liver dinner. After being suckered into watching TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON (2011), I will stick with my gut feeling and let BATTLESHIP capsize without me.
So true ! I got off easy – Several years ago I was beginning to watch The Giant Claw at a local theatre (belive it or not) and about 10 minutes in it literally melted off the screen and never came back. Lucky Me !!
I actually had a 16mm movie print of this growing up in upstate NY.
My Dad was a TV exec and he would “borrow” classics like this for me
to watch at home on the “borrowed” projector. I would watch it once a week.
The best movie ever !
