My Christmas Wish List: Canon Cinema EOS C300 Camera

I own a variety of movie cameras including a Canon 1014-XLS super 8mm, Panasonic DVX-100 and a Panasonic (hackable) Lumix GH-1. Perhaps it’s an overkill or perhaps it’s finding the right tool for the right job.

In early 2012 Canon will be releasing its new C300 Cinema video camera which rivals the RED camera. For $20,000 it better exceed the hype. Nevertheless it’s on my wish list to buy next year.

Godspeed Curiosity (Watch out, Mars… Here We Come!)

What a glorious day Saturday, November 26, 2011 was… NASA’s newest Mars rover, Curiosity, lifted off successfully from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

If all goes according to plan, Curiosity will reach Mars in August 2012 and begin its array of experiments and exploration.  I can’t wait to see what it discovers.

From NASAtelevision:
Mars Science Laboratory Lifts Off for Red Planet

NASA’s Curiosity rover has begun the journey to Mars after its Atlas V rocket launched successfully from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Nov. 26. Ten instruments aboard MSL will provide new data about whether the area within and around Mars’ Gale Crater could ever have supported microbial life.  The Mars Science Laboratory is expected to reach Mars next August.

Tom Waits: November (The Black Rider)

All kinds of dreary lately… maybe the month of November has something to do about — bad weather, bad news & bad roads.

Since 1993 I’ve had an annual tradition of listening to Tom Wait’s marvelous album THE BLACK RIDER in the month of November. Why?… because it includes a song called November on it which perfectly conveys the mood many of us are in at this time of year.

Give it a listen:

Cheers!

Lytro Camera: An Evolution in Digital Photography

Recently, a friend of mine forwarded me information on the Lytro digital camera — an evolutionary & revolutionary technical achievement in digital photography which allows you to choose your focus point in after a photograph is taken.  How?  Because it’s a light field camera — a new way to view your reality. My mind is still trying to figure out how this thing works.

Netflix Loses 800,000 Subscribers!

October 24, 2011 – Netflix reported it lost 800,000 subscribers in the third quarter this year.

I am fascinated with the continued fallout of Netflix’s recent business and marketing mistakes.  In addition I’m quite confident disenfranchised ex-subscribers will not return to Netflix any time soon.  It’s time for a new player to vie for our business.

Let’s hope for some friendly competition!
